Must See Movie of the Year...Angry Birds

For those of you who are as addicted to this game as me, this was worth waiting for.

For those of you not yet known to the game, get it...the plot is angry birds using themselves to destroy their mortal enemies, the pigs, to claim back their eggs, and all manner of obstacles are placed in their way to deter them. But the birds have secret powers; wrecking ball abilities, jet plane speed, boomerang flyback, eggs as bombs, and nuke-like combustion.

OK, it's just a spoof, but I reckon it is a movie worth looking forward to if it were going to happen...but if not, this is the trailer of the year.

Now I really want this!!!

iPhone users go back to the 1980s

iPhone users go back to the 1980s

Owners of the slimline iPhone can now turn their gadget into a 1980s-style "brick".

The chunky devices were the first widely-available mobiles and became a massive hit with City bankers and yuppies.

The phones weighed over a pound and had eight inch-long batteries which lasted just 15 minutes.

British gadget firm Thumbs Up has created a plastic cover to mimic the iconic brick.

Users slot the iPhone into the retro holder, which leaves the phone screen exposed to use normally.

Bitch Session - Tooble

Screen shot of Tooble on Mac - Windows version
also available
In theory this should be one of the best things you can have as an iPhone user, and it is...but only when the damned thing works!
I downloaded this over a year ago, and bought the Serial key for Tooble Pro (few more features) but now and again it just spits the dummy and won't download.
While this is par for the course when it comes to software, it is the non-response from the owners of Tooble who have my money that gets on my wick. This is the second (and most serious) failure I have had with this product, the first time after three emails I still didn't get a response, and found out by chance it was working. This time three months has elapsed...
I love the product, and recommend it (sort of) but the ongoing issues and lack of acknowledgement is piss-poor.

VLC - not sure of the significance of
the traffic cone?
An alternative that bypasses You Tube is VLC - it was a short lived app on Apple, but it seems rumours Apple were to remove has come to roost. This allows synching of videos in any format with your iPhone. I now have more uploaded via this (which was free) than via Tooble (which cost me about $6USD).

Creating Ringtones for iPhone....

iPhone 4
Unlike most other mobile handsets on the market, iPhone does not let you allocate your own music as a ringtone (either default or assigned) unless you purchase that ringtone direct off iTunes. This has it's own problems in that I struggled to find any that appealed to me; Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Lightnin' Hopkins etc, or the ringtone you do get doesn't play the section of the song you actually want. So, dear reader, if you have an iPhone here are the steps to make your own ringtones...

1. Open iTunes and select the song you want to turn into a ringtone. Make a note of the start and finish times (the bar at the top) which you need to get the "section" you want
2. Right click on the song and select "Get Info"
3. Select "Options" and enter the start and finish times of the section of the song you want and click "OK"
4. Right click on the song again and select "Create AAC Version" which will make a new 30 sec (or less of course) version/copy of your song - VFNZ accounts with VMS attached can only ring for a max of 30s (see below about changing ringtime) - standard setting is 20s.
5. Right click this new song and select "Show in Finder" or "Show in Explorer"
6. Here change the file make/extension from "m4a" to "m4r" – if this doesn’t show, go to "Tools", "Folder Options", the click "View" tab and uncheck the box "hide Extensions for known file types"
7. Click and drag your copy of the new m4r file to desktop – delete the version still showing in iTunes
8. Double click the desktop copy – it will either automatically add itself to "Ringtones" as it plays, or you may need to click and drag it in – Windows 7 seems to add it automatically
9. It will add itself to your ringtones when next synched – sometimes you may need to reboot the iPhone to have it show.
